People start practicing yoga for many reasons. At Prana Yoga Studio, we’ve welcomed students seeking a wide variety of benefits, from becoming more active and recovering mobility to reducing stress and sleeping better. As with other activities, many wonder when they will start seeing results.
Answering this question is not simple, for we have to consider different things: from the benefit we’re looking for to the yoga practice we choose, though we can get a general idea of how long it will take.
Benefits You Can Feel From Your First Class
The main thing that differentiates yoga from other physical activities is that it cares not only about the body but also the mind. During our classes, we work on breathing techniques that help us to become more focused and present, helping you reduce your stress levels from day one. After your first class, you’ll immediately feel more relaxed and balanced, thanks to the gentle pause that yoga provides.
Consistency is Key
Before we talk more about how long it will take to see results, we have to remind you that, as with any new routine, some yoga benefits will only be achieved through consistent practice. While you’ll feel some mental benefits after the first lessons, other physical benefits, such as feeling stronger or gaining flexibility and mobility, will take some time to appear. So don’t feel discouraged if you don’t notice major changes after a few lessons: remember that being consistent and showing up to your classes is key!
Yoga is a practice that can help you get fitter and stronger (and even live longer), but it needs to be seen and cultivated as a lifelong habit to get the most out of it.
When Will You Start Seeing Yoga Results?
As we’ve said earlier, answering this question isn’t simple, for every yoga class helps us achieve different results and benefits. But we can get a general idea of when we will start seeing results:
If you’re practicing yoga to improve flexibility and mobility, you can start seeing these benefits after the first month of consistent practice. For this purpose, our Hatha, Flow, Yin, and Restorative Yoga classes are the best option, and if you have mobility issues, our Chair Yoga is a great place to start.
Building strength through yoga can take a little longer, sometimes around two to three months. If this is your objective, we recommend our Vinyasa, Dharma, and Yoga Flow classes. Though not a yoga class, we also offer Pilates, a gentle option that also helps you build strength over time.
And if you’re considering yoga for better sleep and mental health, you can feel these benefits as early as your first class. For this purpose, any of our classes will work, as they include breathing techniques that help still the mind and relax both mentally and physically.
